That same name had once told him that attachments would get him killed - that he should simply throw everything away and live only for himself - but he couldn’t do that. It slid into every crevice of his mind leaving not a millimeter of space for any other thoughts and it coiled itself around his mind like a predator catching its prey. The name blanketed his thoughts like wool, thick and heavy… And warm. No matter how many books he tried to lose himself in, no matter how much he tried to learn about anything and everything, his thoughts were always drawn back to one thing, and one thing only. How long had it been this time? His chest ached more every day, and while he was kept busy helping to rebuild the city from the ground up, it couldn’t keep his mind occupied at night. He breathed out a small sigh as he mindlessly wiped the bowl he was holding for the umpteenth time. It cast a gentle light through the half open blinds into Shion’s kitchen, illuminating the small pile of dishes stacked up on the side of the sink.
